Gigi Fusco Meese (prod.) will hold an open call for The Miracle Worker, a
drama by William Gibson. Dir. Robert Craig. Rehearsals start Oct. 17.
Performances run Dec. 3-18 & Jan. 7-22, 2005 at the Long Beach Playhouse
Studio Theatre. There is pay.
Breakdown-Doctor: male, 50-60, old time country doctor typical of the
South in the 1800s; Kate: female, 25-30, loving mother of Helen, demure
but makes all the decisions in family; Keller: male, 40-50, former captain
for the South in the Civil War; Helen: girl, 10-15 to play 10, a "deaf,
dumb, and blind" child who wants to communicate; Martha: girl,
African-American, 10-15, Viney's daughter, playmate to Helen; Percy: boy,
African-American, 15-20 to play teenager, Viney's son, not bright; Aunt
Ev: female, 45-55, Keller's sister, sometimes flamboyant; James: male,
20-30, wants connection with father but his new mother Kate and sister
Helen have stolen his father's affection; Anagnos: male, 40-50, wise, good
natured soul, Greek accent a must; Annie Sullivan: 25-35 to play 20, tough
but emotionally sentimental, Irish accent; Viney: female,
African-American, 40-50, trusted housekeeper and nanny, views herself as a
member of the family, not a servant.
Prepare to cold read from script with Southern accent. Be familiar with
play.
